Bags of Care plus Christmas Joy for Frame

Christmas came early for Pembrokeshire FRAME last week when WCVA got in touch with the fantastic news that they would be awarding £66,100 from the Voluntary Services Recovery Fund, for FRAME’s Bags of Care Plus project. This is a development of FRAME’s successful Bags of Care Project which will see the delivery of 3,750 free hot meals to vulnerable individuals between Haverfordwest and Milford Haven from January to April 2021.

The project will also see the preparation and delivery of Haverfordwest Community Fridge bags. Each bag will be tailored to the needs of vulnerable individuals who have been referred to the scheme. Our fantastic team of dedicated Community Fridge Volunteers and Community Fridge Monitors will work with and collect food from local supermarkets including Marks and Spencer, Tesco’s and Aldi who provide surplus food for us to share with the local community, which will enable FRAME to continue significantly reducing the amount of waste reaching landfill sites.

Once again FRAME is delighted to be partnering with The Green Shed Café team who will prepare and deliver their much-loved delicious hot meals free to vulnerable individuals during the Covid pandemic who are referred to the project. Great news is that the project has now been developed so that it covers a wider radius out to as far as Milford Haven.

We know from feedback that many of the beneficiaries of the previous Bags of Care project were keen to have healthy eating and smaller portion options and this newly developed project accommodates such options at referral stage. As part of this project Pembrokeshire FRAME will promote healthy eating in line with the work of the Welsh Government and their Healthy Weight strategy to help prevent and reduce obesity (@healthyweightcymru).

Hot meals and free food are significant to this project, but we are also delighted to say that beneficiaries will be given the opportunity to connect more with the Green Shed team and Community Fridge volunteers, via telephone and a socially distanced post-Christmas event if they so wish at The Green Shed once lockdown restrictions have been eased.

Jenny Sims, Managing Director of Pembrokeshire FRAME said “As we have just entered another Covid 19 lockdown news of this fabulous grant could not have come at a better time. We know that there are so many individuals in Pembrokeshire, many vulnerable, afraid, lonely, and isolated, who desperately need the caring support that this project will provide. We look forward to opening our hotline in January 2021 to welcoming as many of those individuals as possible to sign up to receive their Bags of Care. We would like to express our sincere thanks to WCVA and the Voluntary Services Recovery Fund for supporting this project and enabling us to show that we care and helping us to make a difference to the lives of those in need in Pembrokeshire.”

The Bags of Care Plus Hotline will open on Tuesday 5th January 2021. Please visit Pembrokeshire FRAME’s website and Facebook page @Pembrokeshire Frame for referral instructions.
